Benara Bowmen finish on target with archery wins

BENARA Bowmen Archery Club are celebrating a gold-tipped season following four major events.

The Whiteman Park club performed well in the four archery competitions, with field held in June, indoor in July, clout in September and target in October.

Secretary Tamara Locke said their final medal count was 27 gold, 14 silver and eight bronze.

“With archers ranging in age from 15 to 70-plus years, not only has the club made their mark in WA they have also had archers representing nationally on state teams in NSW and Victoria and internationally for Australia on the world stage in Madrid and China,” she said.

At the final event, held at the International Shooting Complex, 16 archers from Benara won a total of 14 medals – eight gold, five silver and one bronze.

Gold medal winners were Danie-Louis Oosthuizen, Nadia Cunningham, Danie Oosthuizen, Jeremy Garcia, Stuart Pilcher (not pictured), Margreth Taylor, Nic Oosthuizen and Sue Swain.

Benara Bowmen shoots every Saturday morning at the International Shooting Complex in Whiteman Park and is running four week beginner courses.

“Archery is a very inclusive sport and can be as competitive or non-competitive as you like,” Locke said.

“Our club has a great mix of people all ages and abilities with the common interest of the sport.”
