Centurions go down by one run

The Centurions had not lost a match for six rounds before Willetton flexed its one-day muscle last weekend to defeat the visitors by just one run at Burrendah Reserve.

Taking to the crease first, the One-Day League leaders were untroubled by Joondalup to see out the 50 overs at 2-255.

WA batsman Cameron Bancroft starred in his opening role for Willetton with an unbeaten 122. The Joondalup batsmen, led by Josh Inglis’s 66, made a number of starts in reply, butcould not defend their wickets with the vigour their opponents had shown.

It came down to the wire with the Centurions nine wickets down and needing just two runs to win in the 47th over.

But tail-ender Denver D’Cruz became Aaron McCall’s only victim for the day as he was trapped lbw with Joondalup on 254.

Joondalup will take on the sixth-placed Tigers in the last of three consecutive one day matches.
