A BARBAGALLO Raceway drifting series is looking to set a WA record this weekend.

The Driftwest Outlaw Series is to host 26 cars this Sunday and, if all cars compete, spectators will witness 104 battles – the most ever seen at a WA meet.

Driftwest is a new entity endorsed by the WA Sporting Car Club.

Spokeswoman Carla Fry said organisers were looking to provide more drive time for competitors by changing the format under which drift events are normally run.

“(We’re) moving away from a ‘you lose, you leave’ format, to a format which gives all drivers eight battles each and the majority of wins takes the number one place,” she said.

“We will also be using a new randomised system to decide battles so that it is a level playing field, and all the drivers get plenty of track time.”

Driftwest hopes the new format will encourage more grass- roots drivers to progress to a competitive level. Practice begins at 9.15am, with the main action from 10.30am to mid afternoon.

Four rounds will make up the series, with the remaining meets on April 14, May 27 and July 22.

Schedule Cost: $15 adults, kids under 13 free. Parking on the hill available to watch the action. Practice: 9:15am to 10:15am Racing: 10.30am to 12.45pm Lunch: 12.45pm to 1.30pm, visits to the pits to look at cars and meet drivers Racing: 1.30pm to mid afternoon
