Falcons closer to big payday

The Falcons were not given much of a chance against Hawthorn VFL affiliate Box Hill in the Foxtel Cup on Tuesday night, but the young WAFL squad answered the challenge with a tense 7.11 (53) to 7.9 (51) victory at Docklands Stadium.

West Perth now faces Tasmanian State League side Western Storm in the semi-finals at Subiaco Oval on June 24.

A six-figure cheque awaits the Falcons if they beat the Storm and then win the grand final.

Coach Bill Monaghan rested a number of key players against the Hawks, but the less-experienced Falcons rose to the occasion. Playing under a roof provided a unique experience for the side compared with the open spaces of Perth’s WAFL grounds.
