First loss for Wolves in over four years

Staff ReporterWanneroo Times

The Wolves remained in fourth after the nailbiting 99-101 away loss, but only on percentage, with six teams, including the Slammers (ninth) now sitting on 16 points.

It was better news in a close one for the women’s side against South West, with Wanneroo downing the reigning champions 54-52.

The Wolves, in third, are on equal points but four percentage points shy of the second-placed Willetton Tigers.

In the men’s game, the Wolves were trailing at half time but took the lead 77-76 into the final period after a breakout 33-21 third quarter.

Wanneroo shooting guard Seb Salinas was critical from outside for the second consecutive week, hitting six three pointers on his way to 24 points.

Trian Iliadis (25 points) topped the Wolves score sheet.

Reece Maxwell had less than 20 minutes court time, but hit 11 points, took six rebounds and led the steal count with Salinas to snatch four scalps.

Former Perth Wildcats captain Brad Robbins returned to add guidance to Wanneroo’s young line up, but was quiet on the stats sheet with four points, four rebounds and four assists from 22 minutes.

Wanneroo was dominated by the Slammers’ Ty Harrelson who dished 14 assists on his way to a 19-point, 13-rebound triple-double.

It was nearly a double triple-double for South West with US import Jamahr Warren hitting a game-high 34 points, while taking 10 rebounds and nine assists.

For the Wolves women, Nikita Martin led scoring with 14 points in a contest that rarely waivered beyond a two-point margin.

Casey Lockwood took a game-high nine rebounds.

The Wolves return home this Saturday night to take on the East Perth Eagles.
