Gearing up for game

Staff ReporterWanneroo Times

With a young and developing attacking half, it’s not going to be perfect every week.

But we’ve liked what we’ve seen in our past two games, where we beat Western Storm by 74 points in the Foxtel Cup and then South Fremantle by 62 points at Fremantle Oval on Sunday.

Matt Johnson and Seva Martin have proven to be handy inclusions up forward.

Johnson has pace and is creative around goals, while Martin, standing at 2.08m tall, has straightened us up.

Statistically, Martin was our least effective forward, but his presence freed Nick Rodda and Marcus Adams to lead hard at the footy, while also giving us a point of reference for crumbing.

We’ll be looking to carry that successful approach into the match against Swan Districts at Arena Joondalup on Saturday.

Swans are an exceptionally talented side.

They play on instinct with an excellent running game.

We’ll need to ensure we’re at our best defensively, which is our main focus each week, then hopefully we can do some damage on the scoreboard.

Weather pending, we expect to field a relatively unchanged line-up, with Steven Potente the only certain omission after he injured his knee against the Bulldogs.

It’s an important game for both sides, with the Swans needing a win to stay in touch with top spot and our guys chasing victory to strengthen our finals chances.
