WHILE Sorrento’s National Premier Leagues WA season has not been its best, the Gulls’ FFA Cup campaign has them through to the national stage of the tournament.
The side upset Bayswater on penalties, 1(4)-1(2), at Frank Drago Reserve last Saturday.
Jack Salter put the visitors ahead inside the first minute of the match, but Baywater’s Dave Heagney equalised midway through the second half.
Sorrento and Perth will represent WA in the national round of 32 draw next week where they could be selected to face A-League clubs.
Last year, Bayswater faced Melbourne Victory, while Stirling Lions came up against Brisbane Roar. ECU Joondalup made it as far as the local semi-final in 2014, but were knocked out by Stirling.
NPL WA action returns this weekend with Sorrento facing Armadale and ECU taking on Perth.
