The Gulls, who have been working on defensive issues, returned their first clean sheet in more than two months when they defeated Floreat 2-0 away.
The victory put the side five points clear of fifth-placed Stirling and within two points of Balcatta in third spot. However, Balcatta could be tough to catch, playing its final two games against lowly-ranked sides.
Speaking of the Floreat triumph, captain Daryl Platten said the side’s dominant performance was worthy of the three points.
‘We’re happy to get a clean sheet,’ he told nplwa.com.au. ‘They have been hard to come by for us recently.
‘The lads in the middle of the park were great. We knew they had dangerous players in there, so Brodie (Martin) and Chris (Reid) were great for us.’
Cross-district side ECU Joondalup, which is out of finals contention, won 2-1 win over Armadale at home.
