JOONDALUP lost a frustrating two wickets late on day one after rolling University for 189 in WACA first grade cricket at Iluka Sports Complex on Saturday.

The stellar form of Centurions bowler Ty Hopes continued, with the leg spinner snaring 5-58 ” his third five-wicket haul from five rounds.

WA rookie Will Bosisto carried University with 113, scoring almost 60 per cent of his team’s total before being run out by Joondalup’s Mudassar Bukhari.

Bukhari took 2-45 against the struggling visitors, who could produce only two 20-plus totals in almost 70 overs courtesy of Bosisto and opener Josh Mason (31).

The Centurions could not keep their slate clean heading into day two as Aaron Todd (7) and Garrick Morgan (2) were dismissed.

Opener Michael Swart (32) and night watchman Hopes (0) take the crease with Joondalup at 2-49 when play resumes on Saturday.
