The Centurions opened the season with a 165-run domination at Breckler Park, scoring 245, then rolling the Hawks for just 80 in 29.5 overs.

Leg-spinner Ty Hopes had Mt Lawley bamboozled, taking out dangerous first drop Tom Beaton (3), then dismissing Shane Rakich and Josh Marrs on his way to a hat-trick and final figures of 6-26.

The one-day match was all but over by the time Hawks number seven Paul Davis (4) fell, with the side on a meagre 46.

Earlier, efforts from Joondalup wicket keeper Josh Inglis (67) and opener Michael Swart (47) were the highlights of the visitors’ innings, which ended in the 49th over.

Only James Baverstock (21) and Corry Verco (22) made double figures for the home side, with Joondalup’s James Boyland (3-21) adding three wickets to Hopes’ six. Dutch all-rounder recruit Mudassar Bukhari was bowled for just nine and took 0-17 on debut for the Centurions.

Joondalup plays its first home game for the season on Saturday at 10.30am and its first Twenty20 fixture at Scarborough on Sunday at 2pm.
