Junior and senior motocross season begins with bang

JOSH Adams kickstarted this year’s Senior Motocross State Championship series with a win at the Kalgoorlie track.

He leads the MX2 division from David Birch and Luke Davis heading in to round two in Byford this Sunday.

The northern suburbs continued to shine in the MX1 with Chris Ruttico second, behind Dean Porter and ahead of Stevie Heilers; Courtney Hirst and Hannah Bagnall coming second and third in the Women’s Championship behind Jess Moore; and Chris Bosnakis winning the quads from Luke Gaisford and Shaun Woodhead.

In the Veterans Championship, James Craig leads from Paul Smithson and Scott Petricevich, while Kile Scoon-Reid leads the MX1 repecharge class ahead of Andy Brack and Mark Rollini and Zac Keast heads up the MX2 repecharge class from local rider Adam Fanderlinden and Ricky Ladiszlai.

Round one was a double-header with the Junior Motocross State Championship also getting off the ground. Local rider Regan Duffy started well with wins in the 128-150cc/250cc 13 to under-16, ahead of Matt Fabry and CorbenWeinert, and in the 100-125cc 12 to under-15, ahead of Weinert and Seth Manuel.

Fellow local rider Kayden Minear also performed well winning the 65cc seven to under-10 from Seth Shackleton and Charlie Weightman, and coming third in the 85cc/150cc nine to under-12 behind Seth Clark and local lad Dylan Walsh.

More locals with success were Sonny Pellicano and Ryder Matthews-Taylor who came second and third in the 50cc auto, sharing the podium with Shackleton and Deacon Paice who came second in the 65cc 10 to under-12 between Clark and Tate Paganini.

In the 85cc/150cc 12 to under-16, Manuel leads from Liam Atkinson and Conan Forrester, while Fabry leads the 100-125cc 15 years from Kasey Cullen and Revonn Nieuwoudt.

In the quads, local rider Kiera-Lily Buckley leads the Ltd seven to under-11 from Nichole McDonnell and Harlee Young, Deegan Lough leads the Comp eight to under-12 from local Keenan Murphy and Brooke Hall, and Jae Dowsett leads the Comp 12 to under-16 from local Joshua McQuade and Andrew Soltoggio.

Round two for the juniors will be in Bunbury on May 21.
