Local motocross riders flying high at Manjimup 15,000

TWO-time Australian motocross champion Dean Ferris claimed victory at last month’s prestigious Manjimup 15,000.

Ferris won three of the four MX1 motos along with the midday shootout.

Though Kirk Gibbs came close when comfortably beating Ferris for the top spot in race two, he was awarded runner-up while northern suburbs rider Kyle Webster came third overall.

In the MX2, Mat Fabry took top honours from Bailey Malkiewicz and Jayden Fabry, with northern suburbs rider Charlie Creech in fifth.

The event was also host to round 1 of the Australian Women’s Championship where Megan Rutledge claimed three race wins and the overall round win followed by Maddy Jones and West Australian Jess Moore.

The national veterans and masters titles were also decided, with Craig Anderson winning the masters from James Craig and Christian Horwood and Stevie Heilers winning the veterans ahead of northern suburbs rider Bryan Staring and Steve Powell.
