WANNEROO and Joondalup will be heavily represented when the WACA U17s side contests the Cricket Australia National Championships next week.

Five Roos and Centurions feature in the 13-man squad: Axel Spearman (Joondalup), Connor Smith (Joondalup), Connor Thorn (Wanneroo), Matthew Spoors (Wanneroo) and Tristan Hobley (Wanneroo).

WA will be part of a revised tournament that has 10 teams competing for the title, including a Cricket Australia U16 team as well as Victoria and NSW country sides.

The West Australians will be hoping to better their fifth-place finish from last year.

WACA talent development manager David Fitzgerald labelled the side well balanced with a strong top six batting line-up.

“There are a number of second year players and their experience at this level in Hobart last season will be important and provide direction for their team-mates to follow,” he said.

WA first match is against Tasmania in Brisbane on September 28.
