THE Mullaloo Surf Life Saving Club’s surf boat contingency enjoyed a home beach advantage when the first round of the WA arm of the Australian Surf Rowers League Series kicked off on November 15.

The club’s four crews had top-three finishes in their respective grades.

First-time crew Mullaloo Steel Beams finished third in the under-23 male division and also made it to the semi-final of the open male division but narrowly missed the final.

The Mullaloo Pirates also had a strong day in the open male division, finishing third overall after a tightly contested final race, while Sorrento A came third in the reserve men’s.

In the women’s grade, rookie crew Mullaloo Chix With Stix finished second in the under-23 division and also made it to the women’s reserve semi final.

Mullaloo TBA, another debut crew, also competed in the women’s reserve where they finished third overall.

Round two will be held at Secret Harbour this Sunday.

Racing starts at 8am with five rounds of 400m short-course racing, followed by finals about 1pm depending on weather conditions.
