MX National Championship: Regan Duffy turns heads

Tyler BrownWanneroo Times

NORTHERN suburbs youngster Regan Duffy was turning heads at the motocross MX National Championship last month with a clean sweep at round 2 of the 125cc Junior Cup.

However, the KTM rider was not off to the best start at the South Australian track.

Despite clocking the fastest time during qualifying, he was docked three positions because of jumping on the first lap.

This allowed Bailey Malkiewicz, Mason Semmens and Jack Kukas to take the first three spots.

But in the first 15-minute moto, Duffy redeemed himself by getting to the lead and staying there, finishing ahead of Kukas and Mason Rowe.

The KTM rider continued his success in the second moto to take the two-second win from Malkiewicz and Semmens.

The win gave him 70 points for the round, giving him a 12-point lead for the 125cc Junior Cup Championship with one round remaining.

“It was the perfect day for us,” Duffy said. “I’m really happy with my riding at the moment and we’ll be heading into the final round with the championship lead so all in all, it was a good day at Murray Bridge.”

The final round will be in Queensland on August 19-20.

WEBSTER STILL IN TOP 10

LOCAL rider Kyle Webster is still sitting in the top 10 following round 5 of the motocross MX National Championship in SA on the weekend 28/5.

Racing in the MX2 class, Webster finished sixth in the first moto and outside the top 10 in the second in wet conditions at the Murray Bridge track.

However, with 233 points for the series, he heads into the five-week mid-season break in seventh place.

Fellow West Aussie Jayden Rykers finished ninth in the first moto and also outside the top 10 in the second but managed to have enough points to end the round in ninth place.

He heads in to the break in ninth place on 209.

Round six will be in NSW on July 2.
