Despite ending up in hospital after a fall in her first ever ride, Danika escaped major injuries and was keen to get back on the bike.

She joined Wanneroo BMX Raceway Club, where she received coaching and began competing in weekly races. The Weekender HBF Junior Sports Hero nominee said BMX racing immediately appealed to her.

‘When I jump it feels like I’m free and can do whatever I want,’ she said.

The Kingsley rider participated in the 2013 BMX WA State Championships and finished third in the under-12 girls, which has given her the opportunity to compete in the national championships in April.

If Danika performs well enough there, she could be representing Australia in the 2014 BMX World Championships held in Rotterdam in July. ‘I’m really excited and I’ve been training hard,’ Danika said.
