Perth Premier League Darts ready to launch

Staff WriterWanneroo Times

THE immensely popular Perth Darts Masters won’t be returning this year, but a new elite state league is hoping to keep the fancy dress party going.

Perth Premier League Darts is to launch this Friday, featuring 10 of WA’s best players battling it out on a fortnightly basis.

It will look to recreate the party atmosphere of the Perth Darts Masters, known for its rowdy spectators dressed in whacky costumes.

Organisers are expecting between 200 and 300 fans at each of the nine rounds before finals begin in July.

League spokesman Paul White said the competition was based on the “hugely successful” English Darts Premier League.

“Perth Premier League Darts is a brand new concept for Perth, with its main focus on providing darts fans a regular opportunity to dress up and party on whilst at the same time watching the state’s top players in action,” he said.

“Players are accompanied on to stage with walk-on girls and music before going into battle for a maximum of 10 legs. With the action shown on the big screen and an electronic scoreboard, it will enhance the experience considerably.”

Five venues will each host two events across the four-month competition: West Perth Football Club, Swan Districts Football Club, Perth Football Club, Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club and Dalmatinac Club. Round 1 begins this Friday night at Swan Districts.
