THE Joondalup-based North Coast Phoenix women’s team in the Water Polo WA Premier League returns from a two-week hiatus this Saturday to take on the Dolphins at Claremont Pool in the final game of 2015.
The competition will take a two-week break during the Christmas and New Year period, leaving the Phoenix to play its only game in more than a month this Saturday against the Dolphins.
Last week, the Phoenix did not play against the City Beach Bears because of a forfeit after the unavailability of players involved in the National Water Polo League’s opening round.
Then this past Saturday, the Phoenix had the bye in the competition while the Melville Marlins defeated Triton 8-4 at Bicton Pool, and the City Beach Bears downed the Dolphins 15-6.
Those results leave the Melville Marlins (9-1) on top of the ladder ahead of the Phoenix (5-5), Triton (4-6), City Beach Bears (4-5, one draw) and the Dolphins (2-7, one draw).
The Phoenix will now look to finish off the year with a high against the bottom-placed Dolphins on Saturday before returning on January 9 against Triton at Beatty Park.
Meanwhile, in the men’s competition on Saturday, the Melville Saints beat Triton 18-5, the Phantoms Skulls downed the City Beach Bears 8-6 and the Dolphins defeated the Melville Sharks 7-6.
It was the Bears’ first loss of the season but they remain on top of the table with a 12-1 record ahead of the Dolphins (8-4, one draw), Melville Sharks (8-4), Phantoms Skulls (4-7, one draw), Melville Saints (3-7, two draws) and Triton (0-12).
