CAPTAIN Bill Gilbert stamped his authority over the fleet and tamed a 3m swell sailing Jack Tar to an emphatic division one win in the second winter race off Hillarys on Sunday.

Last season’s overall consistency winner Hard Evidence sailed by Des Riley and Marshall Fox continued in the same vein with a second place ahead of John Akers who is coming to grips with his new boat Lamotrek.

A fascinating duel unfolded between the two Beneteau 35s for fastest time with Mulberry (Mark Pitt) edging out Deckchairs Overboard (Neil Harrison) by 21 seconds.

In division two Bart Brouwer and Graham Atkinson completed the double of first and fastest in Covert Operation whilst in its last race under skipper John Cable, Xtreme was second and Mark Taylor sailed Helga into third place.

John and his family are heading to one of the east coast’s sailing meccas, Airlie Beach, and will no doubt be back on the water soon.

Rob Bills in Catabatic revelled in the light north easterly to record a first and fastest in the jib and main division (3) ahead of Brett Bailey in Sensei.
