He goes into the national competition in seventh place after the first round held in Queensland, where he took to the track on a new bike for the 2014 season.

‘We started really well, sitting fifth for the first practice session, so I was super happy,’ Senior said.

‘We made a few changes and headed out for qualifying.

‘After a strong start I slipped down the order a bit but still ended up seventh outright. For the limited time we had on track, I was really happy with the performance of the new bike.’

Race one had been scheduled for 19 laps but was shortened to 17 before the start.

‘Unfortunately my start was not the greatest and left me behind slower riders for a few laps,’ he said.

‘I put my head down to try and catch the group in front but was unable to bridge the gap.

‘We finished seventh in the race, so equalled my qualifying position and also learnt a lot about the bike under race conditions.’
