Now they are being recognised beyond the confines of Arena Joondalup.
Midfielders Aaron Black and Shane Nelson were confirmed among the league’s brightest rising stars when considered for selection in this weekend’s interstate clash against Victoria in Northam.
Coached by Claremont’s Marc Webb, the pair were the youngest players named in the initial 33-man WA squad, with Nelson still a teenager at 19 and Black aged just 20.
Both said they had learnt a lot from training with the elite squad, which had an average age of 25.
Black was honoured to be considered among the best players in the competition.
‘That’s really exciting for both of us,’ he said.
‘We’re really close mates as well, so we’re really happy for each other.
‘It’s good to be recognised’
