AFTER a break of almost 17 months following the closure of Barbagallo Raceway, road racing returned to WA with Round 1 of the State Road Racing Championships at the Collie Motorplex on April 15.

Northern suburbs rider Ben Stronach dominated the superbike division with pole position and three wins to finish 17 points ahead of fellow local rider Adam Senior with two second places and a third, and Leigh Boujos who came third by three points.

The strong performances come before Stronach and Senior head to SA for Round 3 of the Australian Superbike Championship.

Boujos then went on to win the supersport division with two wins and a fourth, just two points ahead of his brother Tim, with Tommy King third overall.

In the sidecar division, Des Harvey and Ian Menmuir took the three wins ahead of Graeme Evans and Jarrod Scott who came second in each, and Mickey Robbins and Karen Dore, who rounded out the top three with a third and two fourth places.

The 125GP division saw two winners on the day, with David Manson winning race 1 and Tom the second and third.

Manson took the runner-up spot in the other two races.

Third overall went Scott Topping whose family recently lost everything in a house fire so he was riding a borrowed bike thanks to Manson.

Callum O’Brien took three unchallenged wins in the production division with Lachlan Keogh second overall and Bronson Pickett third.

O’Brien and Pickett also head to SA for the Australian Superbike Championship.

In the supporting classes, Sean McHale won the clubman 600/1000 Series from Jessica Boujos and Lino Mazzali, while Leigh Boujos won the B grade from Terry Teo and David Carroll.

Round two will be held at the Collie Motorplex on August 5.
