The Year 8 Sacred Heart College student returned to school last term with gold medals in javelin and the 4×100 team relay.

"Then my friend convinced me to go for the experience."

She threw 34.96m, 3m shy of her personal best.

The Joondalup Little Athletics competitor trains six times a week with dreams of qualifying for the Olympics.

"I am not a very confident person, I usually second guess myself," she said.

"Winning this has opened more doors for the future."

She named her mother and father and Cathy Freeman as her inspiration but has become a role model herself for brother Noah (8) who qualified for the hurdles state championship competition.
