THE WACA first-grade cricket season launches this weekend under the new title of Premier Cricket as Wanneroo and Joondalup look to get off to a winning start.
Wanneroo heads into its opening clash having lost two talented cricketers in former WA batsman John Rogers to University and promising fast bowler Jack Cattrall to Claremont-Nedlands.
Nevertheless, the Roos will be boosted by the inclusion of UK county spinner Jack Leach.
They face Bayswater-Morley away on Saturday.
Joondalup heads into the competition as favourites to win back-to-back titles with a side relatively unchanged from the one that dominated the competition last season.
Former WA wicket keeper Michael Johnson has joined the squad as the Centurions’ only recruit so far this year. Joondalup faces South Perth at Iluka Sports Complex.
The first four rounds of the season will be played as one-day games before the two-day battles get under way from October 31.
