TOUCH Football WA has signed a two-year agreement with the City of Wanneroo to hold the 2019 and 2020 Junior State Championships in Madeley.

The championships, presented by the Go for 2&5 fruit and vegetable campaign, will be held at the Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex on November 30 and December 1.

The event is open to all junior athletes who participate in affiliated touch football competitions in the under-8s, U-10s, U-12s, U-14s and open (15-17) age divisions.

About 400 competitors and officials are expected to attend, with about 95 per cent of officials and competitors travelling from outside the region for the event.

Touch Football WA state manager Warren Smiles said he was pleased to partner with the City of Wanneroo for the association’s biggest annual junior event.

“The venue has fantastic playing fields, plenty of parking, huge shade trees, playgrounds including Dinosaur Park and excellent facilities, and it’s located in the northern suburbs with quick access from the (Mitchell) Freeway and Wanneroo Road,” he said.

“We will have a huge affiliate marquee set up for all participants to make sure there’s somewhere to meet and rest in the shade.”

Mayor Tracey Roberts said the two-year agreement would give young players a platform to showcase their skills.

“Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex is a fantastic community facility and will be the perfect location to host TFWA’s biggest junior event,” she said.

“Our community will thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere and competition this year and next and I urge everyone to attend.”
