WA Premier Cricket: Wanneroo a long way back

Staff WriterWanneroo Times

WANNEROO was on the end of a one-day hiding to begin the year after losing to Mt Lawley by 150 in WA Premier Cricket on Saturday.

The loss left the Roos 14 points clear at the bottom of the table.

Wanneroo won the toss and bowled first, which proved to be a regretful decision as the Hawks struck 9-253.

The hosts lasted just 33 overs with a score of 103 in reply.

Kyle Millar’s 48 was all that saved Wanneroo from complete embarrassment, with Rob Richards (14) the only other batsman to reach double figures. Mt Lawley’s James Newnham top-scored with 93 before being bowled by Bailey Nylander, who was Wanneroo’s best with 3-56.

It does not get any easier for the Roos this weekend when they face league leaders Claremont-Nedlands.
