WANNEROO junior rugby players have been lauded for their sportsmanship after a nailbiting loss to Rockingham recently.

The Roodogs lost by three points with a penalty kick to Rockingham in the last 30 seconds, 20-17 in the under-14 Gold decider at Arena Joondalup on September 10.

The respect the team showed after the game as Rockingham performed a victory haka earned them plaudits from an opposition player’s father who rang a major commercial AM talkback station to congratulate the Wanneroo players on their dignity.

The match continued a strong rivalry between the sides, with Wanneroo defeating Rockingham in last year’s grand final.
