Wave warriors on way to Mullaloo Surf Life Saving Club

MULLALOO Surf Life Saving Club will be the only beach in WA to host a round of the Wave Warriors Junior Challenge.

The national touring junior beach and surf challenge, created by champion ironman Zane Holmes to promote development in the sport, is open to competitors from under-9 to under-15 years.

Events include the beach sprint, beach flags, surf race, board race and iron person.

New this year will be a pre-event ocean swim run open to everyone (not just surf lifesavers) aged six to over 60. It consists of a 200m swim and 2km beach run.

Now in its fifth year, this season was launched on October 3, with Mullaloo hosting round four of seven on Sunday.

The ocean swim run will be held from 7am to 8.30am before Wave Warriors kicks off at 9am.

Mullaloo surf sports general manager Sandy Clarke said this was the third consecutive year the club had hosted the challenge.

She said more than 250 competitors would take part, with Mullaloo entering a contingent “just over 60”.

“With the weather forecast to be warm and entry numbers still on the rise, it is sure to be a great event,” she said.
