West Perth on ladder low point

The Falcons dropped from fifth to seventh, usurped by Perth (fourth) and South Fremantle (sixth), which had wins over Peel and Claremont on Saturday.

The Falcons, who have won just two of six games, face a must-win match against Peel on Sunday to avoid drifting further from the top four.

The side’s 25-man Foxtel Cup squad left for Melbourne yesterday ahead of its clash with 2013 VFL champions the Box Hill Hawks tonight.

West Perth has taken a young list to Victoria for the match at Docklands Stadium, with senior players Jay van Berlo, Chris Keunen, Matt Fowler, Dan Hunt and Andrew Krakouer among those rested in the lead-up to Sunday’s Thunder fixture.

Champion midfielder Matt Guadagnin was named in the squad as he looks to recover from an injured hamstring and back issue.

Developing players Mitch van Berlo, Seva Martin, Jack Thrum, Joe Morrow, Kris Shannon, Matt Johnson and Max Alexander were added to the side off the back of good form in the reserves.

West Perth coach Bill Monaghan was unsure what to expect from the Hawks, who are affiliated with AFL powerhouse Hawthorn.

The side is currently leading the VFL competition.

‘We’ll plan (as if we’re facing) their very best (side), but for us it’s about going over there and exposing some of our kids’ he said.

‘They’ve been in good form in the twos and regardless of who we play’
