The 13-year-old was in third position going into round four of the State competition, but the home-track advantage gave him the edge he needed to win the weekend and take second place overall.

Racing at the Tiger Kart Club’s recently resurfaced Wanneroo track, Calan endured the ‘horrendous’ and ‘very wet’ conditions to convincingly win both heats, despite starting from the rear in the first race.

Sunday saw drier conditions for the final two heats, with two closely contested races.

Calan fought hard to come a close second in heat three and, after a last-lap spin during close racing in the fourth, he managed to hold on to claim fifth, giving him just enough points to still win the round.
