Bertram powerhouse rocks out in musical based on Disney films

BERTRAM resident Natalija Separovich is getting ready to rock in a high-energy musical featuring a classic story of rivalry and power this March.

Presented by Black Box Creations and directed by Katherine Freind , Camp Rock: The Musical opens with Mitchie and her friends arriving at Camp Rock, ready to spend another summer jamming and having the time of their lives.

But the new, flashy Camp Star across the lake now threatens Camp Rock’s very existence – to keep the doors open, Mitchie steps up, rallies her fellow Camp Rockers and gets them into top shape for the ultimate showdown.

The musical is based on the Disney films Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, both starring the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato.

Sixteen-year-old Natalija plays Sander Loya.

“She is a part of a trio and really enjoys hip hop along with her best friend and partner-in-crime Barron James, as well as Andy Hosten,” the Year 11 Baldivis Secondary College student said.

“Sander was originally a male role so the biggest challenge is portraying the character from a female perspective.”

Involved in theatre since 2010, Natalija has appeared at Crown Theatre in Annie and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and with the Australian Performing Arts Network in High School Musical, Fame and Grease.

She has also performed at Telethon, the City of Perth Christmas Nativity and with Todd McKenney, Rachael Beck and Rhonda Burchmore in Musicals in Concert.

“Camp Rock appealed because it’s a modern musical and involves a young but wide variety of ages,” Natalija said.

Director Katherine Freind said she was passionate about youth theatre and enjoyed helping children learn new skills, gain confidence and make new friends.

“Camp Rock is a fun show with great music and features a large ensemble cast with many featured roles,” she said.

“Whether the children are singers, actors, dancers or triple-threats, everyone has an opportunity to shine in this high-energy musical.”
