Love, Loss and What I Wore is written by Nora and Delia Ephron, the pair responsible for writing the screenplays for When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle and Youve Got Mail.
The play is a series of monologues about womens relationships, their wardrobes and how the two sometimes interact, providing a time capsule of a womans life.
Murphy will be playing a variety of women who reminisce about what they wore in their youth, and growing up and coming of age.
Being a series of scenes and monologues rather than a traditional play, there are a lot of character changes for the ensemble cast members, she said.
This is a great challenge but it also means having to switch very quickly between characters and, with that, comes changes in energy, pace and tone.
One minute youre in a light-hearted scene about how women have an obsession with black clothes and, the next minute, you might have a scene thats much more introspective or touching. Its about trying to make that as organic as possible and treating each moment appropriately.
Murphy, who is presently studying theatre and drama at Murdoch University, has appeared in numerous productions, including a Bollywood version of Richard III and was one of the principal cast in the community TV series Love on the Box.
In 2013, she performed in Noel Cowards Hands Across The Sea at Melville Theatre and A Conversation at the Old Mill Theatre, following those roles up in 2014 with Cosi at Phoenix Theatre and Ninety at Garrick Theatre. She has written and directed short films.
