Mini green thumbs will have a blast with the following simple and cheap home projects.
Make a fairy garden
Clear a space in your garden for the fairies and their friends or use a large coloured pot.
For a quirky idea, try a wheelbarrow.
Include soil, succulents and pebbles.
Then let your imagination run wild and add tiny toadstool houses, gnomes, park benches, streetlights and bridges (use blue sand underneath for water), hedgehogs, frogs – and of course, fairies!
Egg carton garden
Cut an empty egg carton in half and add potting soil to individual eggcups.
Poke a hole in the centre of each cup and place one seed in each hole, then cover with soil and water.
Take indoors and keep the carton in a warm light-filled spot until seeds begin to sprout.
Make sure to water seeds everyday.
Once they have sprouted into small seedlings, transfer to a permanent location in the garden.
Construct a flowerpot wind chime
Decorate four mini terracotta pots with acrylic paints then apply an even layer of acrylic varnish.
Cut a length of cord long enough to hang pots on, leaving enough at the ends to create a looped handle for hanging and to attach a charm at the bottom.
Create a loop at the end and tie it with a double knot.
Pull the looped cord through the centre of a large wooden or plastic bead and push it down to the knot.
Tie another double knot above the bead to give it added security.
Thread the cord through the hole in the base of one pot and push the pot up to the threaded bead; pot should be downward facing.
Thread another bead onto the cord and slide it right up to the inside of the pot and tie a double knot to secure the bead and pot in place.
Repeat the process again until all pots have been strung together.
Your wind chime should look like a loose stack of flowerpots when hung up.
Then hang a charm or embellishment at the end of the cord.
Make sure rocks are clean then get painting.
Some rocks may need more than one paint.
Create ladybirds, little people or a long snack with individual rocks: the first one will be the head.
Make a friendship rock with your name on it and give it to your bestie.
