DANCE schools have stepped up for the 11-day Kwinana Dance Festival, which takes place at the Koorliny Arts Centre from September 23 to October 4.

Now in its 27th year, the festival gives dancers young and old the chance to showcase their skills in a variety of dance forms including classical, jazz, tap, acro, hip-hop, lyrical, contemporary and modern.

The festival has attracted entrants from 29 dance schools, with more than 1700 performances comprising solo, duo/trio and group acts rounding out the event.

The festival is adjudicated by Fiona Scott.

Centre manager Kate McIntosh said this year’s festival was continuing in its reputation as a friendly competition.

“I hope that all involved enjoy the spirit of the festival and see it not only as a competition, but as a chance to learn from a variety of people,” she said.

Winners are announced at the end of each item, with perpetual trophies awarded at a winners’ concert on October 4.

Koorliny Arts Centre is on Sulphur Road in Parmelia.
