INSPIRATION is everywhere, according to nomadic novelist Jenn J McLeod.
Jenn will talk about life as a travelling novelist and her latest novel A Place to Remember with Monique Mulligan at Stories on Stage.
She said being outdoors had made a big difference to her storytelling because there was inspiration in the landscape and characters she meets along the way.
There are also book chats around the campfire, conversations at happy hour and the opportunity to visit regional libraries that rarely get touring authors.
“Some don’t have a bookshop for hundreds of kilometres,” she said.
Jenn said being nomadic could also lead to writing procrastination, but she makes sure to stop for writing days.
“We have a rule: no writing and no social media while on the road,” she said.
“It’s both sets of eyes, especially as we travel though drought-stricken parts of the country, because wildlife by the road is a safety threat (for both parties).”
Jenn said writing had taught her many things, especially how to sell herself as a writer.
“More importantly, I’m starting to sell the idea that Australians should buy more Australian made when it’s available – and that includes books,” she said.
