MORE than 2000 homes around Perth experienced blackouts following last night’s thunderstorm and strong winds.

According to Western Power’s power outage map, there were storm-affected customers in many suburbs including Willetton, Guildford, Hazelmere and Nedlands.

The map showed the suburb with the most known power outages was Guildford with 1028 affected customers as of this morning.

Bureau of Meteorology Duty Forecaster Gianni Colangelo said Perth had already experienced the worst of the winds.

“Strong winds which have been causing the damage will ease once the front moves through,” he said.

Mr Colangelo said we would see isolated cells of rainfall instead of a big slab of rainfall later on today.

“To somebody on the ground not looking at the radar, the rain seems persistent without breaks,” he said.

“There will be a lengthy break, we’re expecting about mid-afternoon, and the front will move through and change the wind direction.”

According to the updated power outage map, most of the power outages have been restored.

If you see a fallen powerline, stay at least eight metres away and call Western Power on 13 13 51.
