The City applied for a grant through the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development to assist with the cost of constructing the playground.

Funding of the playground was a promise made by the Liberal Party during the 2013 election campaign.

Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams said the announcement of Federal backing was extremely important.

‘This announcement is really the catalyst for getting the project off the ground,’ Cr Adams said.

‘It gives us momentum and provides certainty of funding for the majority of the playground’s cost.

‘In the past, we’ve said how important it is that a multi-faceted funding approach is adopted for this project and we are thrilled that the Commonwealth Government has come to the table in that regard.’

‘We’ve spent a great deal of effort over the past several years putting Kwinana ‘on the map’ but this adventure playground will also act as a major drawcard for regional visitors, and will provide a much-awaited boost to local businesses.’

The $3.7 million adventure playground would be built on Calista Oval.

Following a consultation period with the community, the City is now awaiting completion of initial concept plans, expected to arrive by the end of the month.

The City is hoping to have the new playground constructed and available for public use by the end of next year.
