Perth South Coastal Medicare Local (PSCML) runs the service, which is bulk billed for patients with a Medicare card and available seven days a week.

PSCML chief executive Paul Hersey said the service offered residents a doctor who could visit them at home at all times within three hours.

‘We have already received excellent feedback from the community that this is a much-wanted service,’ he said.

‘Previously people who were ill in the middle of the night would have to visit their nearest emergency room. Now they can have a GP visit them in their own home.’

Mr Hersey said the service would help deal with emergency unplanned needs and particularly people in aged care and families with young children.

‘Additionally, Dial a Doctor GPs can write prescriptions and will carry starter packs for many commonly-used medications.’
