LOCAL mother Gabrielle Padovan (30) has undertaken an amazing transformation.
In just over a year she has lost about 60kg.
“I lost the bulk of my weight this year,” she said.
“I weighed in at 111kg last April, but lost 8kg in two months before a trip to Singapore.
“I then sat on 103kg until January this year.
“Since then I have lost 32kg.”
Miss Padovan said a visit to the doctor for stomach issues, depression and fatigue inspired her to lose the weight.
“My GP advised me I had developed NASH (non alcoholic fatty liver disease) and I was pre-diabetic,” she said.
“I was in serious risk of developing liver failure or cirrhosis of the liver.
“Also my sugars were high and I was on the verge of becoming type 2 diabetic.”
Miss Padovan was told she was a candidate for weight loss surgery, which was a frightening prospect.
“After going home and having a serious cry and long think, I realised I needed a serious lifestyle adjustment,” she said.
“I needed to incorporate more exercise and less sugar and bad carbs in my diet.
“Sugars and bad carbs are not handled well by the liver, if they are not used straight away they are turned to fat very quickly.”
Miss Podovan cut out a lot of bread, pasta, rice and white potatoes.
She stopped snacking on chocolates, biscuits and chips and gave up soft drink and fruit juices.
“I also made sure I was eating a good healthy breakfast every morning,” she said.
“I also drink warm water with half a lemon squeezed into it every morning.”
For exercise, Miss Podovan walked.
“I walk twice a day with my two and three-year-old in a double stroller,” she said.
“I have also joined a local fit group Fancypants Fitclub which runs every Thursday in Wellard for mums.”
Since losing the weight, Miss Podovan said she was fitter, her skin was clearer and her moods had improved.
“I no longer need medication for my depression or anxiety,” she said.
Miss Podovan now has a Kwinana Fit Chicks Facebook page to offer support and advice to others.
