BALDIVIS has produced another rising sports star with Futsal powerhouse Alex Capocci being selected to represent Australia at the sports birthplace – Spain in 2019.
The nine-year-old plays with the Cambio Cumbre Futsal Club in Bibra Lake and will travel to Barcelona for seven days of intensive training before competition on day eight.
He will go as part of a tour by the Australian Futsal Association that sends representative teams each year.
Baldivis MP Reece Whitby is sponsoring him for the trip.
Capocci said he started kicking a ball when he was two-years old.
“My dad got me into it when I was very young,” he said.
“I saw it was great so I started playing and got good at it and just kept playing,” he said.
His dad, Fernando Capocci, a devoted Arsenal fan said his son had done him proud.
“He only started with this club about three months ago and I am so proud,” he said.
“He also has gained a soccer scholarship with South Coast Baptist College and he is on the Development Squad for Perth Glory.”
Mr Whitby said Alex was very talented and deserved the opportunity to go to Spain.
“I think Alex is amazing,”
“There are so many talented sports people in the area and Baldivis is always punching above it’s weight for national and international sports,” he said.
“Who knows Baldivis could give us an English premier league player – Alex could end up playing for the gunners and buy is dad a Lamborghini.”
“Hopefully he will remember me and give me a ride in it one day.”
