Baldivis Liberal candidate welcomes proposal for Rockingham beach enclosure

BALDIVIS Liberal candidate Malcolm George has welcomed a proposal to install a beach enclosure at Rockingham as part of a $2 million plan to make beaches safer over the next four years.

Premier Colin Barnett announced the plan this week, if the Liberal Party retains government, saying it would continue to support beach safety measures and shark hazard mitigation strategies.

Mr George said it would be another important step to ensure people were able to swim and train within a protected area.

“All beachgoers should be able to enjoy our beautiful beaches and ocean with peace of mind, particularly parents with young children who are learning to swim,” he said.

Mr Barnett said the Liberals’ commitment would allow for the installation of about eight additional enclosures.

The first will be built at Falcon Beach near Mandurah and at Town Beach in Geraldton.

“We also propose to install enclosures at Rottnest and Rockingham,” Mr Barnett said.
