BALDIVIS MLA Reece Whitby officially opened his new office on Monday to a big group of supporters.

Members of the community, Premier Mark McGowan, several State ministers and local government representatives from the cities of Rockingham and Kwinana attended.

Mr Whitby addressed the group that had spilled out on to the pavement.

“I was first told it would take 12 months to get an office so we have been doing a bit of office sharing at Roger Cook’s, Paul Papalia’s and outstaying our welcome,” he said.

“Even Phil Edmond kindly offered us the use of his office so we appreciated that.”

“Our focus is to support the Baldivis community; our door is open and we encourage you to come and talk to us.”

Mr McGowan said it was an honour to have representation in Baldivis.

“When I was a Rockingham councillor in 1994 all the councillors got on a bus out to Baldivis; in those days (Baldivis) was just fields and a few farmhouses here and there,” he said.

“We were told that it would all be houses one day and the general consensus was ‘don’t be ridiculous’, but look at it now; there are tens of thousands of people here.

“Lots of young families and retirees with beautiful new homes – it’s thriving and has a strong sense of community.”

Mr Whitby’s office is at Baldivis Square, Shop 4/61 Makybe Drive, Baldivis.
