Beach reminder for hot dogs

Stuart Horton, Weekend CourierWeekend Kwinana Courier

The Courier has recently received a number of complaints from beachgoers upset with dog owners taking their pets to non-designated dog areas, and City of Rockingham mayor Barry Sammels said it was imperative rules were observed when taking dogs to the beach.

‘There is no need to exercise your dog in non-designated areas such as beaches where dogs are prohibited,’ he said.

‘If dog beaches are used correctly and responsibly, exercising your dog will remain a happy, healthy and enjoyable experience for everyone, including other beachgoers.’

Dog owners can make the most of beach time with their dogs by ensuring they walk along a dog-friendly stretch of beach area and by being responsible owners.

‘Ensure your dog is social and if you have any doubts keep a lead or muzzle on your dog,’ Cr Sammels said.

‘It’s your responsibility to control your dog and remember to pick up after your dog and keep the necessities such as a lead, waste bag and water with you.’
