Bid to save Baldivis post box

BRAND MHR Madeleine King has joined several Baldivis residents’ bid to save their red post box from the pages of the history books.

Australia Post has proposed permanently removing the post box on Osgood Way in Baldivis, next to the Settlers Hills Village Shopping Village.

With only three street post boxes servicing Baldivis homes, the proposed removal of one of them does not make sense to local residents or to Ms King.

She said Australia Post wrote to her, advising of the intended removal of the post box at 7 Osgood Way. “It can be difficult to have services reinstated once they have been removed and Baldivis is a growing area,” she said.

“Baldivis is a fast-growing suburb and the community in the vicinity of this box is a busy one with young and older families, retirement facilities and many small businesses who will all miss out if this post box is removed.”

Ms King has written to residents advising of Australia Post’s plans to remove the post box and has many calls from people unhappy about the proposal. “If anything, Australia Post should be looking at installing additional services in growing suburbs, and not taking away what little is currently there,” she said.

The MP has written to Australia Post, asking that the removal plan be reconsidered for the long-term benefit of the growing community.

Ms King has encouraged residents to get on board and make their own submissions to Australia Post by calling 13 13 18 and quoting the reference number for the post box of 179 458 881.
