The intersection has been the scene of eight fatal crashes in just 13 years and was ranked the worst intersection in the region in last year’s RAC Risky Roads Survey.
Main Roads spokesman Dean Roberts said the $2.26 million contract for the work was awarded last week.
‘Works include modifications to the existing intersection configuration to provide for the installation of traffic signals, pavement widening and some additional road lighting,’ he said.
