POLICE are investigating an act of vandalism at Ar Rukun Mosque in Rockingham.

A member of the mosque, who asked not to be named, said they did not believe it was deliberately targeted as other nearby places of worship had been recently vandalised too.

‘The church around the corner has been vandalised too, so it is not an isolated incident and I don’t think the mosque has been targeted specifically; it’s not an attack against local Muslims.’

They also said there had been no instance of vandalism in the area until a skate park was built nearby, leading them to believe the perpetrators may have been ‘bored teenagers’.

Police said that some time between 8pm on Sunday and 3.35pm on Monday, white paint was thrown at the front entrance of the mosque on Attwood Way.
