The City requires firebreaks installed by November 30 and maintained until March 31.

Kwinana South Bush Fire Brigade Captain Edwin Mouna said firebreaks were important because they helped to prevent the chances of a bush fire spreading and assisted fire fighters battling a fire.

He urged property owners to prepare for the looming prohibitive burning season.

‘Gutters should be cleaned, as it is essential sticks and leafs are cleared, and lawns should be cut very low,’ he said.

‘Some people think because they live in residential areas they are immune from troubles but if their property is backing on to a bush area they are at risk.’

Kwinana South Fire Station on the corner of Mortimer and Barker roads holds a four-hour public information session on November 2, starting at 11am.
