Busy night for local police leads to two arrests in separate incidents

TWO men were charged overnight in separate incidents involving high speed chases through Rockingham.

At about 10.30pm last nigh, police spotted a red Nissan patrol with false plates on Mandurah Road in Golden Bay.

The driver failed to stop, leading to police following the vehicle with the held of a police helicopter.

A stinger was deployed on Rae Road, which the vehicle drove over and stopped and police arrested the 27-year-old driver.

The Burns Beach man will appear in Rockingham Magistrates Court today, charged with two counts of no authority to drive, driving without lights, driving an unlicensed vehicle, failure to stop and using a forged number plate.

The second incident occurred at about 11pm when police attempted to stop an off road motorcycle on Hope Valley Road, Rockingham.

Again, the driver failed to stop and police, with assistance from the police helicopter, gave chase.

The chase ended near Wattleup Shops when the motorcycle had mechanical issues, and a 27-year-old Warnbro man was arrested.

He was charged with no authority to drive, driving an unregistered off road vehicle, failing to stop and driving dangerously to escape pursuit.

He is due to appear in the Fremantle Magistrates Court on May 27.
