Call for shower facilities for homeless in Rockingham

WA Homeless Advocate Limited chief executive Owen Farmer is calling for public shower facilities in Rockingham.

Mr Farmer, who lives in Port Kennedy, was at the opening of a shower facility in Mandurah last week.

“I would like to see a similar purpose-built facility to benefit the homeless in Rockingham,” Mr Farmer said.

“We really need this.”

The Street to Home Service in Mandurah offers the homeless a free hot shower, mentoring, referrals, friendship, clean towels, shampoo and coffee.

It is run by volunteers.

“People ask every day where they can have a hot shower,’’ co-ordinator Lynn Rodgers said.

The Mandurah facility will initially be open Mondays and Wednesdays from 9am to noon.
