WITH a new qualification under her belt and feeling like she is becoming a "real" Australian, a Rockingham resident is in the spotlight as a finalist in the WA Training Awards.

Department of Training and Workforce Development Director General Ruth Shean congratulated IsabelleO'Connor (pictured)for her achievements.

"Isabelle stands out in her field through the high level of excellence she has achieved," Dr Shean said.

MsO'Connor is contesting the WA Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Training Award, sponsored by the Department of Training and Workforce Development.

Originally from the French-speaking region of Canada, MsO'Connor worked as a paralegal, but was not able to work in the field in her new home country.

After visiting the Perth Careers Centre, MsO'Connor decided to undertake a Diploma of Human Resources Management.

MsO'Connor developed new management skills and learnt about Australian workforce practices.

Winners will be announced on September 4.
